Ra Ra Riot - Ukulele Session

New York, November 13 - About a month ago I was invited in Ra Ra Riot’s backstage to shoot an exclusive ukulele session for Le Soir, the Belgian newspaper I’ve been working for.
I got there at 8pm, joined by 1 assistant, and we were soon taken in Ra Ra Riot’s room. They were enjoying some chinese food and Alexandra was trying to make a phone call (I don’t remember if she ever made it though). Someone asked “so, why are you guys here for?”
“well.. basically we’re gonna make them play 2 songs on a uke”
Once said, Milo (the guitarist) and Mathieu Santos (bassist) both left the room. We took our time to set everything up and we try to work something out with the light but we couldn’t come up with anything, so we gave up and used the lamp we found in the corner. Once everything set up we realized that the uke was completely out of tune. Fortunately Wes would find some magic thing on his computer and after 8 minutes 45 seconds the uke was ready.
After 10 minutes of practice we were finally ready to start the footage. The 6 minutes that followed that moment were just pure, fascinating, bewitching. We tried out best to capture that feeling as much as we could but you had to be there to really feel the excitation voltage…
See you soon,
