Underoath @ Terminal 5 - Only The Strong Survive

New York, October 26 - Christian metal band Underoath originally from Florida invested the City tonight, and when I say invest, I mean it. Literally. And they know how to do it too. Accompanied by no more than 3 supporting bands and their massive Fan Base, they conquered Terminal 5 in a breath. I don’t recall the venue sounding that loud in a while. Trust me, it was raw.
well let’s just say that the present crowd didn’t exactly look like they would worship 50 Cent, you know ?
Though the night started off slowly for me, I could see it coming. The wilderness. Let me tell you a bit about it. After I was done chit chatting with Aaron - UO’s drummer - who was fixing somebody’s Bike outside the venue, and interviewing Grant - UO’s bass player, interview coming up soon on the blog - I was able to join the rest of the crowd. By that time Minnesota Rapper MOS had opened the show. I must say I was surprised… A rapper ? well let’s just say that the present crowd didn’t exactly look like they would worship 50 Cent, you know ? MOS went back to his dressing room under huge cheers. Happy to see him leave ? Um, I won’t say. The night really started picking up when the Devil Wears Prada and particularly Saosin took the stage. The audience started jumping, Pogoing and Crowd Surfing. Everything I came to see. Saosin’s singer even encouraged them to run in circle - which they obviously did. Fun. No doubts about it, but still not the real deal.
Breathing in a new mentality. It was Underoath’s mentality. Until the last breath. The night could finally begin.
“Un-Der-Oath, Un-Der-Oath”, the crowd had only one name on their lips. The band they were all waiting for. That’s what brought the real deal. Aaron took the stage and started with a solo on the drums while the screen behind him was displaying “I’m the Messenger”. The crowd went berserk. Aaron was soon joined by the rest of the band to start off the night with “Breathing in a new Mentality”. The crowd only responded by getting louder and wilder. And it was never to drop for the next hour and a half. The fans got the message. Breathing in a new mentality. It was Underoath’s mentality. Until the last breath. The night could finally begin.
Me, I was in the pit, trying to capture the irrational on my camera, I received two or three legs here and there - not to mention the singer’s spit. But hey, don’t they say that only the strong survive ? Here’s what I saw.
Soon our interview with Underoath’s Bassist Grant. The Crowd Shots and the gallery right below. Hope you enjoyed.
I did.
Sincerely yours,
Noahm
