Say Hello To Urban Photography

New York October 13 - Dear fellows, I am pleased to announce that a new category has been launched today and that is something I have named Urban Photography. Now, what do I really call Urban Photography is the question. As the term Photography didn’t give me much trouble to figure out - what a Smart Ass I am - the word Urban wasn’t that trivial to identify.
If you were to put your sister on Park Avenue and take a shot, would it turn to be an Urban Photograph ?
The first thing that came to my mind, when I looked at the photographs which were going to compose my portfolio was - Oh, word, they deal with an urban landscape, easy, I’m gonna put them in a category called Urban Photography ! Admittedly. But let me ask you this. Although people are obviously part of an Urban environment and even influence the way it looks; do you really think Time Square would be the same place if it were emptied of every human being ? Well, I guess you can always ask Will. But the question is, how much space would you devote to a physical presence in an Urban Photograph ? For example, if you were to put your sister on Park Avenue and take a shot, would it turn to be an Urban Photograph ? WelI I guess you could say yes but you might end up pissing off Tom McGhee.
And as I was thinking about it, I realized that the answer was in fact trivial. Silly me. Since people are only part of a given Urban landscape, therefore, they should only be part of an Urban Photograph, You know ? A suggested presence. A silhouette. A Shadow or A Motion Blurred Body.
A part of it.
And as I know you would like to have a shot of your sister on Park Ave, I’ll come up with an (Urban) Portrait category.
Hope you’ll enjoy my journeys throughout the City and wherever I might go.
